One of the difficulties with the identification and diagnosis of coeliac disease is that it does not have a characteristic set of defined symptoms.

People with coeliac disease may exhibit no symptoms at all or may show a wide variety of symptoms including the following:

  • Bloating, flatulence and wind
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Joint swelling
  • Tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Nutrient deficiencies, including osteoporosis
  • Fluctuations in weight, including difficulty in gaining or losing weight
  • Mood issues, including irritability or depression
