Home Delivery Options

Many of you would be aware that we have dabbled with a trial home delivery service in Victoria for some time.  Unfortunately, the results have been rather mixed and we have decided that we would rather focus on manufacturing and distribution and leave the home delivery service to businesses which are set up to provide it and have the infrastructure and processess to back it up.

Silly Yak Foods will no longer be offering a direct home delivery service.

With that in mind, the following organisations offer a gluten free home delivery service in Victoria.  All of them offer products from the Silly Yaks Gluten Free Range and most also offer complementary products from other manufacturers.

At this stage we do not have any partner organisations who offer a home delivery service outside of Victoria.  If, however, anyone happens to know of one, please contact us to let us know.

Updated QLD Stockist List

As part of our push to expand product availability throughout Australia, we have updated our retail stockist list for Queensland, removing a small number of stockists who no longer hold our products and adding new ones.  Unfortunately, some of the Cornett’s IGA stores that were stocking our products have either been closed or sold to Drake’s – either way we do not expect the products to be available at those stores in the future.  We have also added a number of new independent stockists, including:

We would encourage you to support our new stockists by purchasing from them if possible – it encourages them to keep stocking our products!

Thomas Dux to Stock Silly Yaks

Many of you will know that our products were once stocked in the old Macro Wholefoods Market stores, but that when Macro was absorbed by Thomas Dux Grocer, our products disappeared from their shelves.  Well, after years of discussions, negotiations, pleading, etc., we’ve managed to change that!

We now have a selection of Silly Yaks Gluten Free Bakery Products approved for ranging in all Thomas Dux Grocer stores!

At this stage we only have the ranging approval – we still have to get sales reps around to visit all of the stores, talk to the freezer managers, and get the products ordered and into the store.  We are expecting this process to be completed prior to Christmas, and will be updating product availability on Facebook as the stores come on line.  So if you haven’t visited our new Facebook page, now would be a great time to like us on Facebook and be kept up-to-date as our products arrive in a Thomas Dux Grocer store near you.

Ritchies IGA to Stock Silly Yaks

We are very pleased to announce that we’ve made a big breakthough in our ongoing quest to broaden the availability of Silly Yaks Gluten Free Bakery Products.  We now have a selection of Silly Yaks Gluten Free Bakery Products approved for ranging in around fifteen Ritchies IGA stores!

At this stage we only have the ranging approval – we still have to get sales reps around to visit all of the stores, talk to the freezer managers, and get the products ordered and into the store.  We are expecting this process to be completed prior to Christmas, and will be updating product availability on Facebook as the stores come on line.  So if you haven’t visited our new Facebook page, now would be a great time to like us on Facebook and be kept up-to-date as our products arrive in a Ritchies IGA store near you.

Our ranging in Ritchies IGA’s is a trial.  The hope is that, once Ritchies see the demand for Silly Yaks products, they will be prepared to range the products in many more of their stores.  So, if your local Ritchies IGA isn’t one of the stores that will be stocking our products, now would be an excellent time to speak with the store manager and ask them to stock Silly Yaks Gluten Free Bakery Products for you.

SACS Gluten Free Have Closed

As many of you will already know by now, SACS Gluten Free, the old Silly Yaks Cafe, has closed its doors.  It is our understanding that the owners are considering setting up another gluten free business at some time in the future, but we are not aware of when this might be.

In the meantime, we are excited to announce that we have arranged for our products to be sold at the organic and health food store in the Westgarth Strip.  As of the 1st of January 2013, Silly Yaks Products are available at The Fruit Pedallers/Terra Madre. Located right next to the old cafe at 103 High St, Northcote, they are stocking a full range of frozen Silly Yaks Products as well as fresh breads and rolls.

Alternatively, you might wish to buy direct from us at our Factory Outlet Store in Coburg.

Updated NSW Stockist List

As part of our push to expand product availability across NSW, we have updated our retail stockist list for that area, removing a number of stockists who no longer hold our products and adding new ones.  We are hoping to be reissuing the NSW stockist list quite regularly over the next six months or so, as we focus on building our distribution network in that state.

Aztec Gold Beer Discontinued

It is with great regret that we announce the discontinuation of the Aztec Gold gluten free beer.

At its best, Aztec Gold was a great product – a gluten free beer that anyone, regardless of their dietary requirements, could drink and enjoy.  Unfortunately, it was also a complex and unreliable product to manufacture, as many of you would have noticed from its frequent and extended absences from the market.  After spending almost three years, and a great deal of money, trying to stabilise the product and make its manufacturing processes reliable, we have been forced to admit defeat.  We will not be spending any more time or money on the development of a gluten free beer product, nor will we be manufacturing any more batches of Aztec Gold.

There are several other excellent gluten free beers available on the Australian market, the best of which are the Australian products from Billabong Brewing and the imported Schnitzer Brau.

Silly Yak Foods Sells Silly Yaks Cafe

We’ve sold the cafe! On the 20th of October, 2008, Silly Yak Foods Pty Ltd formally settled the sale of its cafe, Silly Yaks Cafe, to SACS Gourmet Pty Ltd.

The cafe will continue to trade as a 100% wheat free, 100% gluten free environment under the name SACS Gluten Free. As part of the arrangement, we will continue to supply SACS Gluten Free with our full range of delicious gluten-free goodies, including many that we make exclusively for SACS Gluten Free.

The decision to sell the cafe was a difficult one, reached only after much agonising on our part. We eventually decided that we wanted to focus on what we think we do best – manufacturing and distributing our unique range of 100% wheat free, 100% gluten free bakery products – and leave operating the cafe to people who will do it better than we did. We wish Steven and his team at SACS Gluten Free all the very best in their exciting new venture!

We will now be focussing our energies wholly on developing and enhancing our product range and expanding its distribution throughout Australia, New Zealand and, eventually, the world. We hope that you will continue to support us by supporting our ever-expanding network of stockists and by continuing to give us your valuable feedback on our existing products and by suggesting new products that you would like to see manufactured by Silly Yaks.
